#10YearsChallenge
Sorry to disappoint you but no, no photo for this post...
No photo of 10 years ago me VS the current me. Partially, because I’m always repulsive of the idea of being with the crowd - anti mainstream, they say. I’m not in Instagram and won’t be, not in the foreseen future because simply, I don’t like the concept and the motion that the platform brings. So, the first time I knew about this #10YearsChallenge thing, it’s from the whatsapp when one of my high school gang friends shared a photo of us - yeap, the 10 years ago photo.
Few days back, one of my NUS seniors just had his birthday and somehow it reminds me that I’m going to 30s soon, very soon. We are 3 years apart and that is exactly the reason why it triggers my thought. And I’m counting my blessing because my parents never, I repeat, NEVER ask when I’m going to get married, let alone to chase me get married faster.
This trending topic hashtag also brings me back to the year 2009.
When I got my NUS offer...
When I had my first passport...
When I made this blog page because it’s...
When I started to live alone overseas...
When the new journey began...the different chapter of my life.
It’s also in the same year I created my Facebook account after multiple people keep pestering me to have one. And btw, I just stumbled upon a funny meme on the FB News Feed:
@facebook: “Sir, our facial recognition algorithms are becoming less accurate due to aging of users.”
Zuckerberg: “Tell @BuzzFeed to create a viral trend which gets people to post both their very first and current profile pics side by side. Adjust algorithms accordingly.”
LOL. So yeah...anyway...
In about half a year, I’m gonna celebrate a decade of my stay in Singapore. Everyone in Indonesia who casually ask me whether it’s nicer to stay in Singapore compare to Indonesia will always get a quick and firm answer: “Yes”, “Absolutely”, “Definitely”. If I’m in a good mood, I will proceed to explain on how and why is that so. Attitude, safety and cleanliness are my top 3 reasons. Looking back, I always thankful to God and to my mom’s prayer that allows me to have such a wonderful opportunity which brings me to this point.
I’m still yearning to turn back to the higher point of my life. To get a complishment, an achievement. To be proud of myself and make my parents proud as well. Still struggling to find a way. But I know, I’m half way there. Listening to the SEEK 2019 YouTube videos gives me strength and reminder to have the right mind set and belief.
And I’m grateful God has never been so far from me for the past decade when I’m away from home. He never leaves me although I occasionally move away from Him or even forgot about Him. He guides me through and through in every single choice I made, He accompanies me through my pain and suffering, He bless me with all the things I need, and He makes everything beautiful in His time and in His way. In every turn of my path, He is there to assure me. He holds my hand in the dark and brings me to see the light. And at this point, I also don’t understand where do those words come from. It’s not that I purposely finding some flowery words to put here actually...
10 years is enough. To make people see that it’s difficult to maintain a relationship: between friends, lovers, colleagues, any sort. To make people learn to let go what and/or who is not worth their time and effort. To make people understand the true color of a person. To make people experience the change of their waist line and also their stamina. To make people see their visible wrinkle or even find more and more white hair. To witness the change of trend between generations. To have the conversation topic evolve from around school to anything about insurance and investment. But most importantly, to get to know ourselves better. To reconcile with our past and to move on.
Well, I’m still someone who believe that I will not have a long life. I probably will die before 65 years old, given my family history. Having said that, it’s actually about “half way there”. The clock is ticking nand honestly, I must stop slacking/procastinating because the aim is to “Live like today is your first day, only day and your last day”. So that you will live your life to the fullest!
